The Outdoor classroom
I delivered my five week coaching programme to nine girls who were not attached to any youth programme. All young people attended each week and ofcourse give 100%. Young people set their own personal goals and found that their confidence has increase by week four. During week five the young people had to plan a community project. They have decided to plan and build an outdoor classroom at a special needs school which will increase the opportunity to be educated in the outdoors.
Children's Play Park
A group of 8 teenagers decided that they wanted to raise some money to build a play park in their community for children under the age of eight. The young people set out the goal and mini goals and within one year they raised over £11,000 to build the park. The park was open in December 2000. The young felt at the first month that this would not be possible. I give them the methods and support and they achieved.
Beat the Bully Board Game
Goal was to design a board game to help young victims of bullying and sell it across the UK and Ireland. Many of their friends laughed at them. Today they have raised over £18,000 have four awards and have been on local and national TV and Radio and have sold over 140 games. Did their goal come true? Trip to Ghana
Again 4 young people came to one of my sessions and stated that they wished to travel to Ghana and work with poor children. They knew it would cost £10,000 to achieve this goal. 12 months later they achieved their goal by raising the £10,000 and spending four weeks working in Ghana. Just what? they have just set another goal to go back over next year for 8-weeks.
Youth Cafe
12 young people knew that there was very little activities to do on a Friday night and wanted to open a youth cafe in their own community. We had our coaching sessions every week and after four months set up the Youth Cafe which is still open after 2 years.
Achieveing success at school
Here was a 15 year old male who got under so much pressure at school, trying to complete course work. This young person stopped playing sports, which he done 4 days a week, stopped eating and was even thinking about taking his own life twice. After a the first three weeks he set himself 2 small goals to complete his course work and get back to the Gym that would help build his self-esteem. In 6-weeks he achieved his goals and is now doing well at school and is back doing his sports. He felt a lot more relaxed within a short period of time.
Here are some examples of small goals which where achieved within four weeks
Starts a Judo Club
This young lad used to be in a Judo club, but left 2 years ago. He set his goal and mini goals and has now started with his local Judo club. I was speaking to this young person in January 2008 and is now doing kick boxing twice a week.
Earn extra money "in one week"
John wanted to raise £25 to buy something for his room. He set himself a number of mini goals and went out there and started to work on them. He did not raise £25, but did raise £31.50
Join a local football club
Can i joint a local football club within one week? of course you can. This child achieved his goal within two days.
Attend school more often
Who wants to do this as a goal? One girl found that she was taken to many days of school and noticed that her work was fallen behind and that she did not have as many friends as she used to have. After 3 coaching sessions the girl had attended school every day and her confidence had increased. I was even amazed myself.
